Landscaping & landscape design
in Manor, TX.
Manor is home base for Cenizo Design & Build. A lot of the yards here are only a few years old, and most of them started the same way: a strip of builder sod, a couple of shrubs by the porch and a bare backyard.

New construction, bare yards
Neighborhoods in and around Manor, from Presidential Glen and ShadowGlen to Whisper Valley, have added thousands of homes, and the landscaping that comes with a new build is usually the minimum it takes to close. That's actually a good place to start. With few established plants to work around, we can plan the whole yard at once: where the patio goes, which areas stay lawn, where beds and trees make sense, and how water leaves the lot.
Blackland clay
Manor sits on the Blackland Prairie, and the dark clay here is some of the heaviest soil in Central Texas. It holds water after a storm, then shrinks and cracks in a dry summer. New-build lots often have a few inches of topsoil spread over compacted fill. We break up and amend planting beds, raise them where water sits, and make sure drainage moves away from the foundation before anything goes in the ground.
Plants that like it here
This was tallgrass prairie, and prairie plants still do well. Little bluestem, Lindheimer muhly and other native grasses handle the clay, the heat and the wind that comes across open lots. We pair them with tough flowering shrubs like Texas sage, autumn sage, Turk's cap and flame acanthus, and with shade trees such as cedar elm and live oak. A young tree planted the first year makes a big difference to a west-facing backyard a few summers later.
HOA rules
Many Manor neighborhoods have an HOA with rules on front-yard planting, lawn area, trees and fences, and some want plans reviewed before work starts. We design with your current guidelines in mind. Rules differ from one community to the next and get updated, so we always start from the version your HOA gives you today.
Close to home
Because we're based here, a site visit in Manor is a short drive, not a trip across town. That makes it easy to stop by and look at a drainage question after a heavy rain.
