Landscaping & landscape design
in Elgin, TX.

Elgin is just east of Manor along US 290: a small town with a historic downtown and a fast-growing ring of new neighborhoods around it.

New homes, blank yards

A lot of Elgin's growth is new construction in communities like Elm Creek and Saratoga Farms, where homes come with builder sod, a fence and not much else. Older homes closer to downtown often sit on bigger lots with mature trees and room to spread out. Both are good places to start a real plan: where the patio goes, how to shade the back of the house, and how to make the front look finished without a lot of upkeep.

Clay and sandy pockets

Much of the Elgin area sits on heavy Blackland clay that holds water in spring and cracks wide in summer. Toward the east and south the ground shifts, and you'll find sandier soils in places. We check what's actually in your yard, then loosen and amend beds, raise them where water collects and grade so runoff moves away from the foundation.

Low-water planting

Open lots out here get full sun and plenty of wind. Native and adapted plants handle that best: cedar elm, bur oak and desert willow for trees, with Texas sage, autumn sage, blackfoot daisy, Lindheimer muhly and red yucca in the beds. Gravel, decomposed granite and steel edging keep things neat with less water and less mowing than a yard that's all grass.

Sod where it makes sense

Some lawn is still useful for kids and dogs. We size it to how you'll actually use it and put low-water planting and hardscape in the places grass struggles.

HOA neighborhoods

Newer subdivisions usually have an HOA with rules on front-yard planting, trees and fences, and changes often need association approval. We design with your current guidelines in mind.
